Food for Thought: "The Woodstock for Meat"

Cattleman's Feast is coming to Nashville

Hello again, Mafia!

Let’s get right into, shall we?

Another week ticks by and another Food for Thought Newsletter. In this week’s edition we’re back talking about:

  • The Nashville Cattleman’s Feast aka The Woodstock for Meat

  • The Meat Mafia Summer Reading List

  • The Daily Chad & A Mile Per Day

  • Tweet of the Week

“It’s going to be the Woodstock of Beef”…

We were on a call with Texas Slim earlier in the week and he was getting us fired up about what he’s got planned for Nashville. For those of you who don’t know him, he’s a food rights activist who has sounded the alarm on the monopolization that’s happening in the beef industry. He’s the founder of the Beef Initiative and has done a great job raising awareness in the food industry.

Slim joined us on the podcast recently to talk about what’s happening in the cattle industry, and he’s excited to take the stage in Nashville on July 25-27th to discuss food sovereignty and expand on what he sees happening in the food supply.

The Meat Mafia team will be there and we’ll be participating in the Cattleman’s Feast Tomahawk Ribeye Eating Contest too - you won’t want to miss it!

The Meat Mafia Summer Reading List

Alright, it’s officially summertime here in Austin, Texas, and if you’re like us you’re in desperate need of some reading materials. With that said, don’t panic (we’ve got you). Here’s our Mafia Summer 2024 Reading List:

  1. Endurance by Alfred Lansing

  2. The Splendid and the Vile by Erik Larson

  3. The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt by Edmund Morris

  4. The Inner Game of Tennis by W. Timothy Gallwey

  5. Smart Brevity by Jim Vandehei

  6. The Blessed Life by Robert Morris

  7. Thinking in Bets by Annie Duke

I’m excited about this book list because it blends a lot of our interests and some themes that relate to what we’re experiencing in life right now. I think Endurance, The Splendid and The Vile, and The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt, will serve as great inspiration for anyone looking to take on something big this summer (start a business, quit a job, or go on an adventure). The other books are all more mindset and life-focused, and I am excited to dive into them as well since they’ve all come highly recommended from people I admire.

The Daily Chad & A Mile Per Day

Brett and I are looking to dial things up in the gym and both of us our taking our own routes to get there. Brett’s going to be running a mile per day and I am going to be doing “The Chad” hero workout every day. “The Chad” is similar to “The Murph” in the sense that it’s a memorial workout that honors a fallen soldier. It’s a simple challenge really, but it’s not easy: 1000x step-ups with a weighted vest. I am officially on Day 8 tomorrow and am getting really excited to keep going. Many people have asked me how long I am going to do it. The answer? I am not sure. Brett wants me to do 1,000 days in a row. I might for 1,001.
