Food for Thought: States are Cracking Down on Lab Grown Meat
46 million Americans live in states where bills have been introduced to ban lab-grown meat
Morning Mafia!
We are living through a renaissance of sorts.
On March 19, 2020, nearly four years ago to the day, the United States began locking down to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. In isolation, during lockdowns, we began experiencing more of our world through our phones. We watched divisive events like the George Floyd protests, the rollout of the vaccines, the presidential election, and the Ukraine war, move us further into polarizing camps. These events have moved us further towards the extremes and people have become more convicted in their beliefs. Not surprisingly, the health & wellness space did not make it through the pandemic unchanged.
It appears as though a few camps have formed in the health & wellness space since March 2020. On one hand, you have doctors and media figures discussing the efficacy and usefulness of pharmaceuticals like statins, Ozempic, and more, as ways to effectively tackle the major health problems in this country. Then you have the other camp (our camp), that sees fundamental issues in the food system as the core problem driving the health outcomes weāre experiencing in the world today. People look at inventions like GMO crops, glyphosate, cheap and abundant oils, industrialized poultry & beef, and cheer because āweāre feeding the worldā. Or, you see all of those inventions and you protest because āweāre feeding the world poisonā. If thereās one thing thatās clear, itās that the Western idea of large-scale food has efficiently put āfoodā on peopleās plates and disease in our bodies.
This is why when it comes to lab-grown meat people are starting to say āno moreā. Ron Desantis, the governor of Florida, just announced the passing of the bill in Florida to ban lab-grown meat in the state. This comes after many other countries, such as Italy, have pushed back on the legality of the invention. If the bill in Florida passes (which we believe it will), anyone selling cultured meat is subject to fines up to $500 or 60 days in jail.
While the divisiveness in the United States illustrates the image of the tense times weāre living in, it also has bred a small revival. A renaissance of sorts. People are now taking their health into their own hands, and looking to hold big corporations more accountable. The banning of lab-grown meat is a sign that this health renaissance isnāt merely a meek fad - itās getting the attention of lawmakers and politicians.

Alright, guys - until next time!
